photos of old kazak rug

This third quarter 19th century Kazak measures 4’1” X 6’9”. It has 3 ½ diamond shaped medallions running up the field surrounded with latchhook borders in ivory. The center motif flows inward from the ivory borders becoming latchhook red, latchhook blue, latchhook yellow/gold or latchhook red, latchhook green or latchhook ivory. The other two are also different colors. Study it. Have some fun. These meld into the same type of center medallion cut in half in the interior length of the center. There are 4 reciprocal barber pole borders in ivory, red and yellow encompassing an ivory ground with an interesting unique design shaped like triangles connected to squares. They are not symmetrical but live in harmony. There are two other reciprocal borders on a blue ground with ivory and brown diamonds. The rug is full pile. The ends and sides are complete. It is clean and ready to go. The buyer pays the shipping with insurance of $75.00.

Antique Kazak Caucasian Rug 4’7″ X 10’4″ #8105

old Kazak oriental carpet rug image

This circa 1875 Gallery sized Kazak measures 4’7” X 10’4”. It has a very strange and complicated design. There are three medallions on a black ground. The medallions contain three different motifs in blue, ivory, red, pale green that is almost gray. The motifs are unique. The ground color looking from one direction is red and from the other direction it appears bright tomato red. If you quarter the medallions and stick them on the side of the field you would have the motif and color of the center medallion. The major border is leaf and calyx (wineglass border). The wine glasses are in blue, ivory, green, and tobacco. The major border is encompassed with a reciprocal border on an ivory ground with snowflakes. (I like to call them snowflakes but they have 8 sections not 6 as a snowflake would). As to the pile of the rug…some of the black is down a little bit to show top of the knots but not much. I could honestly say without fear of retribution that this rug is essentially full pile. The ends and sides are complete. It is clean and ready to go. The buyer pays the shipping which includes insurance of $95.00

The field motif defies description so I won’t even try but let the buyer make up his own story. The major border consists of various colors of eight sided geometric figures in shades of blue, brown, tobacco and green. The major border has octagonal designs that have several models of the same motif. The major border is cuddled up against reciprocal borders. #6876 Borchalo Kazak Antique Caucasian Rug 3’10” X 4’9″

6876 Facralo Kazak rug

This first half 19th century Borchalo Kazak measures 3’10” X 4’9”. It is a lovely little prayer rug which has a tomato red field and a very simple prayer design.  The medium blue prayer arch is very high on the field of the rug denoting   age.  The blue/green diamonds flanked by two hexagons are filled with what some might refer to as ‘tree of life’ or what some refer to as ‘crosses within crosses’ as portrayed in Armenian churches.  Many believe that these rugs were woven by Armenians.  The inner border is reciprocal white and brown which is reflected in the outer major border in the colors of green and tomato red.  This is very unusual.  There is slight re-piling in the field.  There is a small problem in the lower right-hand corner which is easily repaired.  The ends and sides are overcast.  The rug has vibrant silky wool and is very pleasing to the eye.  It is clean and ready to go.  The buyer pays the shipping of $50.00.
