This circa 1935 signed Nichols Art Deco Chinese rug measures 3’1” X 4’10”. It has a light sand colored field containing an interesting motif consisting of two urns sitting on black tables in yellow gold with a green motif with flowers in purple, coral and yellow. There are two images that look like Christmas stockings above and below the center medallion. Very interesting and I have never seen this before. There is a pumpkin image that looks like it is being pierced with a yellow key. Every corner contains a very strange motif. At first glance they look like blue lines of Chinese letters but upon closer inspection you realize they are actually stylized dragons winding in and out of the heart shaped motif. There is a minor blue border on an off yellow ground with a Greek key design in blue. The major border is coral containing a flower and vine motif. The outside border is two shades of blue. The rug has full pile. The ends and sides are complete. This is a very rare signed Nichols in mint condition. It is clean and ready to go. The buyer pays the shipping with insurance of $50.00.
