This circa 1900 Khamseh NW Iran Oriental rug aka Chicken rug measures 5’0” X 6’7”. It has three medallions. The center medallion is tomato red and flanked by two ivory medallions on a dark blue ground with as many chickens as you’d find at KFC in blue, a couple of shades of red, brown, and ivory with circular flower motifs surrounded by an ivory border with an interesting design in triangles, diamonds and horseshoe shapes. The major border has diagonal cartouches in ivory and blue filled with a diamond motif in various sizes and colors. There are two reciprocal borders with ivory and red, flesh tone and red, and red and dark blue squares quartered on a medium blue ground. The edges are finished with multi colored edging.
