Antique Persian Afshar Oriental Rug 5’3” x 6’1” #8025

Age: late 19th century

Size: 5’3” x 6’1”

Description

This late 19th century Afshar measures 5’3” x 6’1”. I have never seen this motif before. It has a blue pulled medallion completely filled with asymmetric geometric figures on a tomato red ground filled with more asymmetric geometric figures. In the entire rug there is not 2” that are the same as any other 2”. The major border design looks like OP Art arrows on a tobacco ground encompassed by two reciprocal borders in blue, red, and ivory. One end of the rug is finished in four blue and black stripes in the kilim selvedge. The other end has diamonds woven in a sumac motif about 3” wide. The rug is evenly low with no foundation showing. On the back there are six places with burlap glued to them which altogether equal about 1 square foot. This was obviously done by a repairman who couldn’t get it together to sew it shut. It is not noticeable from the front of the rug. But it is certainly noticeable in the markdown of the price of the rug. The burlap could be removed and corrected properly. The ends and sides are complete. The rug is clean and ready to go. The buyer pays the shipping which includes insurance of $75.00
