This 3rd quarter 19th century Peking Chinese Antique Oriental Rug measures 9’9” X 13’5” (302 x 457 cm). It has an ivory ground with a large circular medallion consisting of three colors of blue flowers and Chinese fretwork. There are twenty sprays of flowers on the ground. The corners are worked with a large flower in two colors of blue. All four corners are identical. There is a small inner border with a meandering vine and flower motif on a ground which is a little darker ivory than the field. The outer major border takes this meandering vine and flower motif again with groupings of the Buddhist symbol for happiness on a ground lighter than the field. The condition is evenly low. There are three visible repairs. The largest one is ½’ x 3”. They are photographed. The ends and sides are complete. It is clean and ready to go.
