This circa 1890 Peking Chinese rug measures 9’2” X 11’9” (280 x 362 cm). The rug has a copper colored field like a new penny but not garish. It is very serene. It has four floral sprigs, one at each corner and each different from the others. The floral medallion is drawn in a circle and consists of four potted flowering plants, a rockery containing reeds and a flowering tree in white, tobacco and three shades of blue. There is one minor border in light blue with meandering flowers and vines and there is a small beautifully drawn butterfly in each corner. The major border is dark blue consisting of incense burners and beautiful butterflies, four legged stands with urns, and flowers ending at the corner with flowering pots. The short ends of the border have flowers and vines. This rug is in perfect full pile condition like it’s never been walked on. The ends and sides are complete. It is clean and ready to go.
