This 19th century Ersari Hatchli made in Afghanistan measures 4’0” X 7’1”. It has kilim ends one of which is finished in horizontal lines 3-4 knots wide in blue, brown and ivory. The lower end is a solid pale red. The field design of this rug is quartered by a cross which is known as a Hatchli motif. A rug that is essentially a twin to this rug is photographed in the book ‘Turkoman Tribal Rugs’ by Werner Loges. The piece is worn as photographed. The ends and sides are complete.
