Description

This circa 1900 Amritsar antique carpet from India measures 7’4” X 11’4”. It is a very finely woven rug with beautiful softly spun wool. The field of the rug is divided into four quadrants with two different medallions laid out in a catty corner motif. One opposing pair has a square with pulled ends in the colors of tobacco, ivory, peach and a beautiful sky blue. The other opposing pair looks like a European shield design in the same colors. Each quadrant is laid out like a painting with a frame around it. The major border is on a puce ground with a meandering flower design and is encompassed by reciprocal borders of meandering flowers on an ivory ground. The background of the rug is a beautiful shimmery rust color that looks like water with a slight breeze blowing over it. The selvedges are about 2” wide and complete and beautifully woven in a brick color. The condition of the rug is essentially perfect with full pile and complete ends and sides. It is clean and ready to go. The buyer pays the shipping with insurance of $125.00.
