This 18th century Ningxia Chinese rug measures 4’7” X 7’7” (143 x 235 cm). I have never seen a rug that even remotely resembles this one. The ivory field is covered with about 40 black, blue and ivory butterflies in different stages of flight. The ivory field has three minor borders in black and a major border consisting of a chain of blue leafs. The rug has a very calming almost serene effect. Both ends are missing between three to five rows of knots which have been refinished with a cloth tape sewn across the ends to keep them from unravelling. The pile is evenly low but this is a beautiful possibly 200 year old rug. The buyer pays the shipping which includes insurance of $75.00.
