This 4th quarter 19th century Peking Chinese Oriental rug measures 4’0” X 6’9” (122 x 213 cm). It is a very nice little Peking rug with a charming bucolic scene of a spotted deer on a hillside with a tree coming from the top and another flowering tree off to the left. There is a bird and a butterfly and a bat (for good luck) moving around in the central field and a flowering tree coming out of the border to the right. All is on a dark blue ground. The minor border consists of the Chinese idea of a dollar sign separated by flowers on a light camel/grey ground. The major border consists of cartouche motif on the same ground color as the minor border and contains a floral design. The cartouches are all separated with auspicious depictions such as the chessboard, the bell, the parasol, the scrolls, the books and several others which I cannot identify. This rug is in essentially perfect condition. It is full pile with complete ends and sides. It is clean and ready to go. The buyer pays the shipping with insurance of $75.00.
