This circa 1900 Peking Chinese antique Oriental Rug measures 9’3” X 11’4” (283 x 347 cm). It has a dark blue field with a center medallion consisting of an urn on a stand filled with flowers next to an urn in yellow gold on a dark blue stand surrounded by a wreath of flowers. The smaller center medallion is surrounded by a large wreath done in two parts made up of flowers upon which are sitting four beautifully drawn parrots. At the top and bottom of which is a red ribbon from which is hanging a paper lantern. The corners are all done in pale purple rockeries out of which are growing a large tree containing a pair of blue birds and a small growth of flowers. This is in all four corners. It is very symmetric. Very Chinese. The minor border is a lighter blue containing nicely spaced blossoms in red, purple and tobacco. The major 10 inch wide border is a dark ruby red with a vase of flowers on a table in each corner, four butterflies and eight ducks swimming on a lake. The rug is full pile. I believe it is mandarin wool and it is very finely woven and thick. The rug is in essentially perfect condition. It is clean and ready to go. The buyer pays the shipping which includes insurance of $150.
