Description

This circa 1920 Laver Kerman antique Persian Oriental carpet measures 8’9″ X 11 ‘5″ (271 X 350 cm). This exceptionally finely woven rug is in essentially mint condition. The detail of the rug is extremely minute. The drawing is so involved that one would find it difficult to put two fingers anywhere on this carpet without hitting design. The design consists of a central medallion composed of an ever expanding circling motif going to flower heads going to fleur-de-lis and culminating in botehs. On the north south axis is suspended a hanging lamp descending into a sea of flowers. The entire field is covered in swirling arabesques, cypress trees, flowers, and botehs. The wide border, whose background maintains the same color as the field, is composed of a repeated design of hanging lamps suspended by a chain, small foliage in a cartouche, full width cypress trees all repeated around the rug. The rug is so pale that it appears to have no color at all, when in fact it is loaded with very soft Oushak like colors such as blue, celadon green, pale red, ivory, and spots of a darker blue. The rug is extremely beautiful. This rug must be seen in person to be fully appreciated. The rug is full pile. The ends and sides are complete. It is clean and ready to go.
