This third-quarter 19th-century Peking Chinese Oriental rug measures 7’3” x 8’9” (22 x 271 cm). This rug is in mint, never been used condition. I have never seen this motif before in a Chinese rug. It is an absolutely asymmetric swirling, whirling and scrolling eye stopping riot of blue within blue vines and flowers with large very pastel pink flowers growing up from the tips of many of the vines. There is a single beautifully drawn large butterfly in shades of brown, blue, ivory and pink in the left corner. The rug has two minor inner borders. One consists of the pearl motif on a medium blue ground, going outward to a beautifully drawn Greek key border in pale pale pinks and brown, culminating in a minor border in very pale café au lait consisting of a continuation of the field motif of scrolling vines and flowers. This is actually one of the most beautiful Chinese rugs I have ever laid eyes on and the condition is not to be believed. The rug is full pile. It is clean and ready to go. The buyer pays the shipping with insurance of $125.
