This circa 1920 Art Deco Chinese rug measures 4’0” x 6’10”. It has a mauve field and border separated with a narrow solid border in a deeper shade. The field is completely covered with a complex design which has a red duck in the water and a red rockery. At the bottom grows a giant plant with massive blossoms in ivory, purple, gold, red and orange. Half way up this foliage is another rockery out of which is growing a phantasmagorical tree, out of which is growing the same colored blossoms. It has a purple and blue bird sitting in its branches. There are more trees, one of which is a weeping willow with a two colored blue trunk and leafs in two colors of blue among which is flitting a multicolored bird. This rug has a very complex design with at least two birds, three ducks, and a veritable riot of foliage. The major border consists of the vine and flower head motif.
