This circa 1880 Peking Chinese rug measures 11’0 x 17” (335 x 517 cm). It has a pale empty camel hair colored field surrounded by a spectacular midnight blue border 2’1” wide at each end and 1’1” wide on each side. All around the frame of the border are meandering flowers in several shades of blue and ivory. The rug has been elongated at either end to accommodate the extravagant decoration on the aprons which consists of a very large urn on a stand filled with flowers, an incense burner with writing implements and an ink bottle, a small open bowl, a large urn in the center with huge chrysanthemums. There is some wear in the field (photographed) which is consistent with the 120 years old age of this carpet. The border except for a small place which is pictured is full pile. The ends and sides are intact. This rug is clean and ready to go. The buyer pays the shipping and insurance on this rug of $225.
