Caucasian Rugs

Antique Caucasian Rugs for sale

were largely woven by the nomadic cultures from the Caucasus region in the mid to late 19th century using  long haired wool sheared from the sheep they raised. The hand spun wools were hand dyed with vegetal and mineral based dyes, and the hand knotted  area rugs have fascinating beautiful designs. The geometric and sometimes floral designs were produced on small looms  and were unique to each weaver. These rugs were utilized for all aspects of tribal living. They came to be popular in Europe in the late 1880’s and have been prized possessions ever since.
